Policy Development

The increase in workplace related lawsuits has placed an enormous strain on human resource managers. In fact, employers are increasingly being subjected to substantial liability for negligent hiring, retention, training, and supervision of employees.

In order to reduce torts in and out of the workplace committed by employees, it is recommended that employers communicate strong policies that certain behaviors will not be tolerated.

It is not enough to have a policy statement or to distribute an employee handbook at the time of hire. Employers have a responsibility to provide ongoing training, particularly of managers and supervisors regarding policies and procedures in place to ensure a safe and fair workplace.

Necessary Policies

Examples of necessary policies:

  • Sexual Harassment
  • Violence in the Workplace
